What is the situation for women in engineering? What is their situation in fields where they are largely in the minority? The research report: La situation de femmes en ingénierie au Québec dans des secteurs où elles sont largement minoritaires is a complement to the book Quelle est la situation de femmes en ingénierie au Québec? Plaisirs, défis et solutions (Lafortune, Gagné et collaboratrices, 2024). It provides insights, food for thought and topics for discussion, while broadening horizons thanks to conclusions drawn from the ACFAS symposium in May 2024. The theoretical framework is also complemented by the concepts of stereotype threat and variable-geometry citizenship at work. This approach is changing the vision of the situation of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) for the whole research team, and probably for other people involved in the research. The proposed tools can be used in the workplace (business and education) to stimulate interactive reflection between people working in different environments. We hope that the research will continue with questions such as: Why do women leave their jobs? What strategies are worth experimenting with to attract and retain women, whether in the engineering field or in areas where gender diversity in employment has not been achieved? The complementary expertise of the co-researchers and collaborators brings an original and innovative dimension to thinking about the situation of women not only in engineering, but also in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).

She has several scientific publications to her credit in recent years, including as author or first author: Déconstruction du triptyque " préjugés, stéréotypes et idéologies " de quelques actions syndicales au Québec (2024, with Chloé Fortin-Bergeron) ; Femmes " opérateur " à technicienne en pétrochimie : qu'est-ce qui achoppe ? (2022); The polymorphic conception of systemic discrimination: unions between discourse and action in Quebec/L'illusion de l'égalité: conception polymorphique de l'action syndicale québécoise, entre discours et actions (2021/2022); Femmes " opérateur " 30 ans ont passés: quelles distances parcourues?
Louise Lafortune, Ph.D. (Sciences de l'éducation, enseignement des mathématiques), is Professor Emeritus and Associate of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and Visiting Professor at the University of Holguín (Uhol, Cuba).
