High in the sky, the sailboats of barnacles crossing the sky inspired me. As I wrote, I realized that my creative proposal would become an experience rich in humanity.
Within this project, delicate issues would be raised: the current migratory crisis, the identity and cultural crisis of certain peoples, as well as other social and environmental realities.
A few months later, an art project took shape in several schools across the province. The geese took to the skies, following three different routes on their migratory journey. Stopping off at school after school, the geese were cared for by their hosts and returned in greater numbers to other locations. On their bodies, identity and cultural marks made by their creators.
And so the geese multiplied. Driven by color, the beauty of their differences and the desire to meet others, they traveled over 3,000 km. Once their journey was over, the geese returned to the people who had given birth to them: children, teenagers, adults and elders.
Anne Deslauriers has been teaching visual arts at secondary level for some twenty years. At the same time, she is a lecturer in a graduate program at UQAM's School of Visual and Media Arts. She holds a master's degree entitled Comprendre l'enseignement des arts comme un art en soi: saisie d'une pratique en enseignement des arts plastiques au secondaire. She is currently completing her doctorate in art studies and practice. Her current research aims to link art education and environmental education by modeling an art teaching practice driven by social-ecological issues.
