Drawing on the experiences of several countries, this book provides a detailed overview of the informal sector, as it appears in different regions of the world, through a fact-based approach necessary for evidence-based public policies. The book provides a unique forum for addressing the causes, manifestations, forms and consequences of informality, with international expertise and a multidisciplinary, multicultural approach. The mechanisms, modalities and policies of transition to the formal economy are also addressed.
