This book offers training in innovative design based on the work of the Theory and Methods of Innovative Design chair at Mines ParisTech, with the support of the MosaiC cluster at HEC Montréal. The aim of this training course is to help students master innovative design reasoning models, mobilize the formalisms of C-K theory and learn how to act in innovative design situations.
Divided into eight thematic sessions, the training covers three major areas:
the theoretical foundations of design reasoning and design regimes, in particular C-K theory;
the role of knowledge in design processes;
organization of innovative design, including the facilitation techniques needed to manage design teams.
Each session introduces new theoretical concepts, anchors them in recent research and illustrates them. Exercises are proposed to apply the principles presented and to stimulate discussion and questioning. Workshops provide an opportunity to apply what has been learnt in real-life contexts, with support materials to help identify the challenges and potential difficulties of innovative design situations. Summaries conclude each session, highlighting the key points to be retained.
A professor at HEC Montréal since 2014, Marine Agogué, Ph.D, teaches courses in management, innovation management and organizational design. Trained as an engineer at École Polytechnique and in management science at École des Mines de Paris, her research focuses on creative reasoning and innovation management tools. She is currently studying innovation processes at the state-owned corporation Hydro-Québec.
