Revisiting our relationship with nature, development and prosperity is a civilizational challenge on which the future of humanity depends. The concept of sustainable development, formalized in the 1980s under the impetus of the Brundtland Report, was proposed as a way of overcoming the limitations of the development model adopted by the vast majority of the world's countries since the 20th century. Despite its importance, sustainable development faces the paradox of false popularity. While it has never been so much in the news, it is clear that it is still mysterious and misunderstood on a large scale. Adopted and promoted by international institutions and governments, widely debated in the academic sphere, denigrated by others, the concept of sustainable development stirs up a great deal of confusion. The aim of this book is to make the major debates and discussions that shape the concept accessible, while at the same time deconstructing the most widespread misconceptions. This intellectual adventure will help you discover the many facets of sustainable development.
With the participation of many leading figures in sustainable development, including Ahmed Djoghlaf, Chantal Line Carpentier, the Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Jacques Prescott, Thomas Mulcair, and many other top-quality contributors.
