Foreword by Susane King. With the collaboration of Alexandre Nana.
The emerging aboriginal population, with its fast-growing demographics, represents a major economic, social and professional force. This book presents benchmarks that organizations can draw on in their efforts to promote the social and professional integration of aboriginal workers. The proposed model is based on four dimensions: planning, cultural security, support and training. It aims to respond to the needs of the host communities, while minimizing the challenges of social and professional integration for all. Supported by the FNQLHRC and the INMQ, the book is the result of the author's research and several years' experience in aboriginal communities. The book's primary target audience is managers and all those involved in organizations located near Aboriginal communities and territories who hire or wish to hire Aboriginal workers, and it is also relevant to organizations interested in issues relating to the employment of Aboriginal workers.
Dr. Émilie Deschênes has over fifteen years' experience in the field of education, more specifically in teaching and pedagogy, and especially in the management of education in an aboriginal context. Her professional experience in Aboriginal communities and with Aboriginal people is vast and diverse. Her post-doctoral research in intercultural management (HEC) on the training and employment integration of aboriginal workers led to the idea of writing this book. A professor at UQAT, she also specializes in the fundamental issues of decolonizing institutions and integrating aboriginal perspectives into education and training.
