This first barometer of management practices in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in Cameroon is the fruit of collaboration between the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) in Canada and the Agence de Promotion des PME (APME) in Cameroon. Its objective is to present an annual socio-demographic profile and characteristics of manufacturing SMEs, as well as to evaluate the management practices used or adopted by these SMEs. Lastly, it annually measures SME owner-managers' perceptions of financing and the main obstacles to their development.
The first chapter introduces APME, followed by the second, which summarizes the context of the study. The third chapter deals with the methodological approach adopted for the study, while the fourth briefly reviews the current state of the manufacturing sector in Cameroon. The fifth chapter presents the socio-demographic profile of owner-managers and the profile of SMEs included in this first barometer. Finally, the sixth and last chapter presents the main findings concerning
management practices used in Cameroonian SMEs, and owner-managers' perceptions of financing and the main obstacles to their development. The book concludes with a series of recommendations for the adoption of management practices.
This book is therefore aimed at anyone interested in the issues of SME performance and competitiveness, and in particular at all players in the entrepreneurial and SME ecosystem in Cameroon and Africa: entrepreneurs, SME managers, financial institutions, public and private organizations supporting entrepreneurship and SMEs, researchers, consultants and students, etc.
