How do Cuban and Canadian women experience professional work?
What are their challenges and obstacles?
Women in professional situations: Cuban and Canadian experiences (Mujeres en situaciones profesionales: experiencias cubanas y canadienses) features texts that celebrate the wide range of professional experiences of women from different backgrounds and walks of life, in a desire to integrate the intersectional feminist perspective in an embodied way. Themes covered include: work-family balance; intersectionality as experienced in the workplace; racism in the workplace; women in management; and women in higher education and leadership. Gender relations are considered in the context of race, class and culture. The authors of the texts are plural. They are professors, managers, nurses, researchers, self-employed workers, mathematicians, directors, engineers and civil servants. They live in Holguín, Montreal, Ottawa, Regina, in the city or the country, and represent several generations. The context of the pandemic made the creation and production of this collective work complex, but it is unquestionably the fruit of a fertile, non-hierarchical collaboration between authors from many different backgrounds.
