In addition to creativity, the practice of interior design is indissociable from the management tasks that systematically follow from project realization. Added to this is knowledge of the most effective networking, communication and marketing techniques, not to mention the laws and regulations that govern the profession and the organizations that regulate it. This book covers all these aspects of professional practice.
There are many paths to interior design, and once you've graduated, there are many options open to designers who want to expand their knowledge. On the job market, employment opportunities are numerous, and new outlets have yet to be explored. Professional integration is a delicate stage, and recent graduates need to be well prepared. This handbook is designed to help you enter the profession - or change direction mid-career - and avoid making costly mistakes.
Interior design projects are often carried out in collaboration with other professionals, and above all, with many skilled tradespeople. Knowing how the construction industry works is essential to ensuring that projects run smoothly. This handbook includes everything you need to know to get started and succeed in your interior design career.
Andrée Villemaire enjoyed a diversified career in the residential, institutional and corporate interior design sectors before teaching at Cégep Marie-Victorin. With a 2nd cycle diploma in college pedagogy, she taught most aspects of professional interior design practice for 14 years. NCIDQ-certified in 2002, she subsequently undertook the technical revision of L'essentiel du design d'intérieur, Guide du candidat à l'examen du NCIDQ, an exam administered by the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ), the American certification body for interior designers.nShe was the driving force behind her professional association's development of the APDIQ® Certified Interior Designer certification mark, which was implemented in 2011. As a result of all her voluntary contributions to the advancement of her profession, she was named an honorary member of the Association professionnelle des designers d'intérieur du Québec (APDIQ) in 2014. The writing of this interior design professional practice manual is her most recent achievement.
