In this wide-ranging book, the authors examine studies and theories relating to cognitive changes in adults and other functions of the cognitive system. They focus on the cognitive characteristics of the adult and present an encapsulation model of cognitive changes in the aging adult, particularly in relation to his or her ability to process information, knowledge and thought. They demonstrate that adults actively construct or select, through Post-Formal Thinking, domains of knowledge that do not decline with age.
