Changes in school governance appear to have had an impact on the well-being of school principals in Quebec, as well as that of management staff in France. To address these issues, a team of researchers undertook a scientific research project in Quebec and France, in collaboration with the Fédération québécoise des directions d'établissement d'enseignement (FQDE), the Association montréalaise des directions d'établissement scolaire (AMDES), the Association québécoise du personnel de direction des écoles (AQPDE), the Syndicat National des Personnels de Direction de l'Éducation Nationale (SNDPEN) and Éducation & Devenir (E&D). The aim of this study was to analyze the nature of burnout and its various manifestations. In short, the research team and collaborators hoped that this new knowledge would help raise awareness among school managers of the importance of taking care of their own well-being, so as to remain PASSIONATE ABOUT EDUCATION!
Caroline Gagnon is currently a doctoral student in education at UQAM. She is interested in the evaluation of learning, and more specifically in the development and use of intuition in teachers, with a view to helping them better understand the cognitive processes underlying decision-making. It is directed by Marthe Hurteau, professor in the Department of Education and Pedagogy at UQAM, and co-directed by France Gravelle, professor in the Department of Education and Pedagogy at UQAM. She collaborates on various research and teaching projects with them. She is also a student member of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante (CRIFPE).
France Gravelle holds a doctorate in social sciences, specializing in education, from the Université de Paris-Est, a master's degree in education and a graduate diploma in school administration. A full professor-researcher in the Department of Education and Pedagogy at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), she previously held the position of Visiting Professor in Leadership, Evaluation, Programs and Educational Policy in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa, as well as that of Director of the Centre de pédagogie universitaire at the same university. A specialist in education management and new governance, she is also interested in issues relating to the management of digital implementation, online and hybrid education, higher education management and the well-being of school administrators. She is also an associate professor at the Institut des sciences, des technologies et des études avancées d'Haïti (ISTEAH), an associate researcher at the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante (CRIFPE), and an associate researcher at the Centre de transfert pour la réussite éducative du Québec (CTREQ), member of the Groupe de recherche interrégional sur l'organisation du travail des directions d'établissement d'enseignement du Québec (GRIDE), of the Board of Directors of the Association pour le développement de l'enseignement et de la recherche en administration de l'éducation (ADERAE), the Board of Directors of the Réseau d'enseignement francophone à distance (REFAD), the Board of Directors of AUPTIC-Éducation, the Board of Directors of the Association Internationale de Pédagogie Universitaire (AIPU), the steering committee of the Communauté pour l'Innovation et la Recherche sur les Technologies dans l'Enseignement/Apprentissage (CIRTA), the Réseau de recherches sur le numérique de l'UQAM, the Observatoire du numérique en éducation (ONE) and the Association Francophone Internationale de Recherche Scientifique en Éducation (AFIRSE). Since 2018, she has been collaborating with the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) to foster the development of pedagonumérique leadership among school principals and school managers. Julie Monette has just completed her Master's degree in Education at UQAM, and aspires to enroll in a doctorate program. Her subject focuses on her two main areas of interest, e-learning and the study of the human being. With a bachelor's degree in psychology and a background in post-secondary teaching, her research aims to combine the two, in order to determine the best pedagogical and digital strategies for creating a distance learning relationship. Her last two years have been devoted to research into the management of pedagogical innovation, in collaboration with France Gravelle and Nathalie Frigon. As a pedagogical consultant, she also assists teachers at LaSalle College with online training. She is also a student member of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante (CRIFPE).
Richard Étienne has a degree in Classics, a doctorate in Latin studies, and is a teacher-trainer and university lecturer in educational science. In 1996, he defended a thesis entitled La didactique des langues anciennes dans les établissements français de 1970 à 1995 (The teaching of ancient languages in French schools from 1970 to 1995), and in 2004 obtained a habilitation to direct research (Apories et contradictions du changement en éducation scolaire). In 2001, and until 2012, he created and coordinated the research and professional Master's degree in Educational Consulting and Training, as part of a partnership between Université Paul-Valéry-Montpellier 3 and IUFM-Montpellier 2. He is an honorary professor at Université Paul-Valéry-Montpellier 3, member of the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Recherche en Didactique Éducation Formation (LIRDEF), axe Travail, Formation et Professionnalité, and his CV is online (https://cv.archives-ouvertes.fr/richard-etienne). His activities and work focus on change, projects, organization and analysis of the work of teaching, health and social workers, as well as supervisors and trainers of adults, students and pupils. He uses the clinical approach and the analysis of educational situations.
