This book is part of a long tradition of reflection and writing on strategic management that has taken place at HEC Montréal. The first book was conceived in the early 1990s and published in 1996 under the title : La stratégie des organisations: une synthèse. Most books on strategy focus on tools or propose specific theories promoted by the authors. This book is a synthesis. It is based on the idea that strategy is a creative act. Managers don't need recipes, but an understanding of the field and a keen eye for what others have invented. This synthesis leaves room for managers to develop an original strategy. It avoids imposing on them outmoded schemes presented in seductive and misleading forms.
La gestion stratégique : Synthèses et guides pour les managers is an important guide and reference for managers and executives seeking to make original contributions, whatever their field of activity. Consultants and advisors to managers will also find it a useful basis for their work. This book is useful for both undergraduate and graduate business schools.
