Developing students' critical thinking skills is a necessity for universities and institutes of higher education in the 21st century. The 21st century is characterized by an overabundance of information, rapid change, the growing complexity of life in society and the shifting nature of knowledge. Against this backdrop, teachers at universities and institutes of higher education are putting in place a range of devices and strategies to develop students' critical thinking skills. However, the state of research in higher education reveals that few students think critically at the end of their university education.
This collective work presents a range of innovative studies (empirical and theoretical) relating to critical thinking and its development in the context of academic and professional training.
Georges Kpazaï holds a master's degree (M.Sc.; Université Laval) and a doctorate (Ph.D.; Université de Montréal) in the field of physical activity sciences (option: psychopedagogy of physical education and health). After a post-doctoral internship at the Observatoire des Réformes en Éducation (ORÉ) at the Université du Québec à Montréal, he is currently a teacher-researcher at the School of Human Kinetics (Faculty of Health) at Laurentian University (Sudbury) in Ontario. His interests include modeling and the development of critical thinking in health and physical education.
