Society is changing, people are changing, and people management needs to adapt to these changes. In both the public and private sectors, many organizations have decided to turn the corner in order to meet the new needs of their human resources. These changes are placing greater demands on organizations in terms of productivity and quality, a more autonomous organization of work that values teamwork, a management style that requires more work on production processes, sometimes greater job insecurity, a multiplication of career paths, and an increase in the frequency and scope of organizational changes. It's hardly surprising, in this competitive context - which can even be described as highly anxiety-provoking - that a number of management formulas and models are appearing, claiming to help human resources managers carry out their duties. Some of these are merely fads, but others can genuinely improve and even rethink the hiring, coaching, management, assessment, training, retention, remuneration and, above all, the development of an organization's members. Competency-based management seems to belong to this second group of promising, high-potential formulas and models. This book has been written to appeal to any manager wishing to move from a human resources management (HRM) dynamic to that of human resources management (HRM), or who is simply interested in competency-based management. This book is intended to provide support and guidance to anyone who needs to implement a competency-based management approach or develop one or more management tools in this area. It is also a very useful reference tool for any student enrolled in a university-level course dealing specifically with management processes or competency-based management models for individuals in their work situation. The practical, hands-on nature of this book is designed to provide managers with the tools they need in their day-to-day work.
