For at least two decades, the trend in Quebec's migration policy has been clearly in favor of economic immigration as a means of coping with labor shortages in various sectors and regions of the province. Most studies show that the integration of immigrants not only has an economic dimension, but also involves social, psychological and political dimensions. This book explicitly invites us to reflect on the conditions for the social and professional integration of immigrants. A reflection that must be multidimensional and multidisciplinary.
Drawing on a number of disciplines, this book provides a statistical portrait of immigration to Quebec, and highlights the major challenges involved in integrating immigrants. It also presents winning strategies for both individuals and organizations to improve the chances of successful integration. Next, the book takes an intersectional approach, analyzing the particular journeys and challenges faced by women and families. Finally, it looks at the role of institutions in this integration, notably professional orders, unions, government bodies and employability organizations.
This book shows that better integration and retention of immigrants in organizations and regions is everyone's responsibility, and requires a holistic and humanistic vision that goes beyond the economic need to respond to labor shortages.
