Cooperation in multicultural companies - the case of Montreal companies

We are increasingly living in a multicultural world, particularly in major cities around the globe. Montreal is no exception, with more than 30 % of the population of the Island of Montreal having been born abroad, representing more than 130 different nationalities. This reality is contributing to making workplaces increasingly multicultural and transforming the social and cultural dynamics we find there. A question naturally comes to mind: How do all these people from different cultures and backgrounds manage to work together, produce goods collectively, or provide quality service?

This book presents 15 case studies of Montreal-based companies to explore the issue of how businesses operate in highly multicultural work environments. How do individuals from different cultures manage to work together and cooperate to achieve the company’s objectives? These case studies are preceded by two chapters that enable readers to analyze them using existing management tools—particularly those related to intercultural management—and to gain a better understanding of the Montreal context in which they operate. They offer insights into managing such companies in the Montreal context, as well as broader lessons about this type of organization, which is becoming increasingly common in contemporary societies.
