Linguistic revision: knowing the standards for detecting and correcting mistakesoffers professional and aspiring language professionals a reference tool to help them better understand the rules of the French language. It presents an overview of the difficulties encountered during language revision assignments, alternating between explanations and practical exercises. The indispensable but often hated grammatical classes and functions are presented, followed by explanations of the rules of grammar and morphology, syntax, vocabulary and punctuation.
Authentic examples, taken from public documents (newspapers, government and corporate websites), make it easy to understand. Practical application exercises, with suggested corrections explained, offer a real and realistic vision of the linguistic reviser's work by presenting several hundred sentences containing language errors.
The aim of this book is to provide a summary of the rules and exceptions of the language, applied to sentences that editors see on a daily basis. From agreement of the past participle of occasional pronominal verbs to zeugme, from anacoluthe to paronym, from attributive agreement of the direct complement to commas framing the explanatory relative, the reviser has many tools at his or her disposal to check the linguistic accuracy of a statement. The most important thing is not to «know», but to «understand».
