How do you analyze a cultural work? How do you research it, the context in which it was created, and the background of the person who imagined and created it? How do you structure and present your thoughts in a written work that meets the requirements of graduate studies without betraying the emotion you felt when you came into contact with the work? It's questions like these that Les règles de l'art seeks to answer. The guide was created specifically for the Arts, Literature and Communication pre-university program, taking into account its cultural and methodological aims, as well as the ministerial specifications governing it. While methodological guides designed for the college network are most often intended for the study of the humanities, Les règles de l'art is the result of the pooled experience and expertise of teachers from three distinct disciplines at the heart of this program: cinema, art history and literature. Its approach is designed to be simple, accessible and lively, to better support teaching staff and students in their cultural discoveries.
André Caron taught film at Cégep Garneau for 25 years. Trained in film production at Concordia University's School of Fine Arts, he completed a master's degree in film studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in 2005. André Caron became a contributor to the film magazine Séquences in 1986, and between 1988 and 2020 also wrote for the Médiafilm press agency, which awards the famous 1-7 ratings for all films shown on Quebec screens. In 2018, he published the essay Frankenstein escaped: the cinematic torments of a modern myth. He is currently in charge of cinema content projects at SODEC.
Gabriel Bouchard is professor of literature at Cégep Garneau. His university studies in literature and pedagogy have taken him from UQAC to Université Laval, via Université Michel de Montaigne in Bordeaux. Among his many commitments, he played an active role in the development of the Arts, Letters and Communication program at Cégep Garneau in 2014 and 2015. Alongside Nathalie Morency, among others, he sits on the committee for the multidisciplinary course Culture: découvertes et méthodes.
Nathalie Morency has been teaching art history at Cégep Garneau since 1998. She has always been deeply involved in the Arts, Letters and Communication program. She was twice involved in developing the program at Cégep Garneau, as a committee member in 1999 and 2000 and as project manager in 2014 and 2015. She was also in charge of the program from 2005 to 2008, and initiated a number of projects, including several cultural trips to New York.
