For businesses, trust is becoming the vital fuel for performance.
The combination of increasingly unpredictable global competition—which demands rapid responses—the digital revolution—which is rapidly rendering entire industries, professions, and jobs obsolete—and new methods of producing goods and services—which are increasing horizontal communication at the expense of top-down relationships alone— all of this requires companies to become increasingly agile, adapt in real time, innovate continuously, and shift from a siloed to a cross-functional approach: only strengthened trust among their various stakeholders can ensure, at the lowest cost, this essential and new conception of performance.
Drawing on numerous examples from Canadian and European companies, the two authors—who themselves come from the business world—propose simple tools designed, on the one hand, to raise the level of interpersonal trust among all those involved internally in driving performance and, on the other hand, to ensure that the company’s very structure fosters trust among all of its partners.
It's concrete, practical, and necessary.
Donald Riendeau, LLB, LLM, MBA, is a co-founder of the Institute for Trust in Organizations (ICO). Before founding the ICO in 2012, the author owned a firm specializing in governance and integrity for about ten years. He has also served as a strategist for major Canadian companies.
Throughout his three-pronged career as a business executive (at both large and medium-sized companies), an interministerial delegate, and an adjunct university professor, the author has written or co-authored some thirty books on the evolution of organizations and management, including *Confiance, A Guide to Trust and, with Jean Luc Fallou, *Trust in Practice*.
