This book illustrates the diversity of projects and project management by presenting a variety of real-world projects across sectors such as transportation, health care, sustainable development, social services, and event planning. More specifically, success stories—which showcase the wealth of experience in this field in Quebec—help highlight the profession and its positive impact on our society. This wealth of experience highlights the different approaches and practices, as well as the management mechanisms that may be specific to certain types of projects. The book is intended for educators—to illustrate the application of project management concepts and tools—as well as for students seeking to understand various scenarios and aspects of project management, and for professionals who will find examples of the challenges they face along with possible solutions. These various case studies are organized within a framework of project management practices divided into five sections: project definition, project governance (including contractual relationships), project delivery, transfer of project results, and human competencies.

Alejandro Romero-Torres is an associate professor of project management at the Université du Québec à Montréal and director of the Project Management Institute’s Global Accreditation Center.
Maude Brunet is an assistant professor at HEC Montréal. Her research interests focus on the governance and innovation of megaprojects, public infrastructure projects, and public-private partnerships. She is a member of the scientific committee of KHEOPS—the International Research Consortium on the Governance of Major Infrastructure Projects. She has been certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) since 2010. She has published in several journals on project management and administrative sciences and served as an associate editor for the International Journal of Project Management. She has 15 years of experience in project management, notably as a teacher, consultant, board member at PMI Montréal, researcher, and speaker.
