Like the previous edition, this new edition aims to provide both novice and experienced teachers with the tools needed to teach geometry (plane geometry and solid geometry) and measurement in a way that is engaging for both teachers and students. In this new edition, we expand on the pedagogical aspects specific to geometry from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Thus, in the introduction, we outline the main contributions of research in mathematics education. In the various chapters, we supplement this information with «didactic supplements» in which we explain either the initial learning challenges students face, or activities that can be implemented in the classroom as part of differentiated instruction or remedial support, or any other insights that should assist the teacher. As in the previous book, readers will find, in each chapter, theoretical overviews that clarify the topics under discussion, individual activities to test one’s own knowledge, and instructional activities (analyses of textbooks or student work) that focus on classroom implementation and the learning outcomes students should achieve under the PFÉQ.
Annette Braconne-Michoux has been a professor at the University of Montreal since 2011. She is responsible for courses on geometry instruction in both the Bachelor’s program in Preschool and Elementary Education and the Bachelor’s program in Special Education.
In addition to his experience teaching mathematics in France, his graduate studies in mathematics education in Quebec (M.A.) and in France (DEA and Ph.D.) focused on the teaching of geometry in elementary and secondary schools. Her research (in the didactics of geometry) pursues this same goal: to improve the teaching and learning of geometry in elementary school. Through professional development, she aims to equip teachers so that this area of mathematics can once again become a source of learning and motivation—even enthusiasm—in Quebec elementary school classrooms.
Annette Braconne-Michoux has been a professor at Université de Montréal since 2011. She is responsible for geometry didactics courses in both the Baccalauréat en enseignement préscolaire et primaire and the Baccalauréat en enseignement en adaptation scolaire.nIn conjunction with her mathematics teaching practice in France, her university studies in mathematics didactics in Quebec (M.A.) and France (DEA and Ph.D.) have focused on geometry teaching at primary and secondary levels. Her research work (didactics of geometry) pursues the same objective: to improve the teaching and learning of geometry in elementary school. In continuing education, she aims to equip teachers so that this area of mathematics is once again a source of learning and motivation (and even enthusiasm) in Quebec primary school classrooms.
