{"id":11018,"date":"2025-04-02T19:10:48","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T19:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/editionsjfd.com\/backup\/produit\/a-legal-personality-for-the-st-lawrence-river-and-other-rivers-of-the-world\/"},"modified":"2025-05-16T19:54:57","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T19:54:57","slug":"a-legal-personality-for-the-st-lawrence-river-and-other-rivers-of-the-world","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/jfd.virtualgx.com\/en\/produit\/a-legal-personality-for-the-st-lawrence-river-and-other-rivers-of-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"A Legal Personality for the St. Lawrence River and other Rivers of the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following the recognition of the Whanganui River in New Zealand, the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers in India, the Yarra River in Australia, and the Atrato River in Colombia as \u00absubjects of rights,\u00bb the International Observatory on Nature\u2019s Rights has launched a discussion on the possibility of recognizing the St. Lawrence River\u2014the \u00abpath that walks,\u00bb as it is called by the First Nations\u2014as a \u00ablegal person.\u00bb The essays in this anthology explore the implications of granting legal personhood and rights to the St. Lawrence River, examine the epistemological foundations of the paradigm of recognizing the rights of Nature, and present concrete examples of rivers being recognized as legal entities.<\/p>\n<p>Written by experts from several countries where rivers have been recognized as legal persons to date, the book takes an in-depth look at the challenges and contributions of this paradigm shift in river protection.
