Depending on how you look at it, the municipal system of government is characterized by great diversity and considerable autonomy. Less enlightened by the media, who tend to focus on it on a case-by-case basis, it is also the poor relation of academic research, as reliable data is not easy to compile on many aspects of its operation. Hence the interest, when the opportunity arises, in making it better known, by providing the public with a broad introductory overview, marked by analyses and commentaries drawn from long experience in the field.<\/p>\n

This is what author Pierre Pr\u00e9vost does in this book. His varied professional experience has enabled him to rise to this challenge, acting in turn as an analyst, consultant, manager and teacher in the municipal sector. Few of the facts and trends that have influenced the municipal sector have escaped his attention over the past twenty-five years, and he has been able, when required, to go back in time to understand where certain situations originated. He has provided us with a wealth of information that will be of interest to university students, practitioners and observers of the municipal environment alike, who will no doubt be pleased to note that the author provides many food for thought on how to improve our municipal system and enable it to meet the challenges of the next generation.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
